European Newspaper and Magazine Publishers call for thorough scrutiny of the proposed remedies in Google competition inquiry

Newspaper and magazine publishers have repeatedly expressed their concerns about Google's activities in the online search and advertising markets, including its preferential treatment of its own content over that of third parties. It is essential that the commitments, offered this week by Google to the European Commission, bring an end to the manipulation of search results which threaten to turn the open Internet into a closed Google Shop.

Launch of the EU Health Prize for Journalists & Save the date for the DG SANCO Seminar on 5 December 2012 in Brussels

The 4th edition of the EU Health Prize for Journalists is launched. All journalists are invited to submit their articles published in print or online media in any EU Member State between 25 July 2011 and 31 July 2012. Submissions are open until 31 July 2012. The articles must relate to one of the 13 health topics (click here to see the rules), on active and healthy ageing or on smoking cessation.

Publishers welcome the European Commission’s approach on Google

The European Magazine Media Association, EMMA, welcomes the decision of the European Commission to give Google a last chance to offer remedies with respect to concerns that it gives preference to its own content compared to content of third parties, such as publishers.
