EMMA lends its support to #CopyrightForFreedom campaign

EMMA, the European Magazine Media Association, has today lent its support to a campaign #CopyrightForFreedom which aims to highlight and generate support for freedom of expression, in the context of the current debate on copyright reform.

As set out in a statement (below) on behalf of press publishers in Europe, effective management and protection of copyright are essential to sustaining independent journalism, news and analysis which are all vital elements of any democracy. To live without a free and independent media today would not only be a threat to our democracy and European values – it would be unthinkable.

We would like to invite you to also support this campaign by signing a petition, launched today, which calls on the EU Institutions to offer their support for a robust copyright system that underpins the diversity of our cultures and allows the many differences of opinions to flourish. Likewise, you can also show your support by using the hashtag #copyrightforfreedom on your social networks.
