The Future Media Lab. cooperates with the European Commission’s Digital Futures Project to develop an interactive conference programme

The Future Media Lab. is collaborating with the European Commission’s “Digital Futures” Project to bring a unique, interactive dynamic to the third Future Media Lab. conference, which will take place next week on 23 April 2013 at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU in Brussels. This conference will be opened by Vice-President Neelie Kroes, European Commissioner for Digital Agenda.

At the core of this half-day event with more than 150 media executives, EU politicians and key stakeholders is a 2-hour interactive session that will be run by the European Commission’s “Digital Futures” team. The interactive session will allow conference participants the exceptional opportunity to share their vision of Europe’s future media landscape and debate the related legislative and social challenges.

The Digital Futures project uses co-creation formats (i.e. World Café) and the Futurium online platform to tap into the collective wisdom and creativity of stakeholders to develop long-term visions (futures) and policy ideas for beyond the Digital Agenda and Europe 2020.

By coordinating this event with the European Commission’s Digital Futures team, conference participants as well as other interested parties are able to log-in online to share their ideas of what Europe’s media will look like in the year 2050, which will allow those who are not physically able to attend the conference to join the discussions in the run-up to and after the event. The online discussions will take place on the European Commission’s Futurium virtual platform: http://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/futurium/en

The Futurium platform has been developed to allow European citizens to co-create the digital future they want to see for Europe on a variety of subjects. This virtual platform is aimed at sharing policy ideas, opinions and visions for Europe’s media landscape in 2050, and is an excellent way for conference participants to stay in touch by continuing their conversations after the event. Additionally, the ideas that are shared on the platform in the run-up to the event will be presented during the conference, and eventually feed into a European Commission report due out early next year.

Information about how to use Futurium can be found here
